First of all, for the membres of universmarvel.com
who don't know you yet, can you explain where your nickname is from?
I created this nickname for a mailbox I had for a long time. I didn't
want a nickname with numbers like Hulk1215 and “justfree”
was easy to remember
I chose Spock by chance because I was looking for an nice and well
known character, and cause most of the marvel's heros had already been
taken.
We'd like to learn more about you. how old are you,
where are you from, what are you doing ?
I am 38, living in Tours and I'am working in a factory which produces
electronical components.
How did you become keen on painting ?
I always loved painting, drawing, as I've been studying the
“Beaux Arts” and then follow a training as a computer
graphics expert. furthermore, painting on figurines doesn't need much
work space, but I'm now trying to find a workshop, which is pretty hard.
How long have you been painting ?
For more than 10 years. I bought my first model in a small shop in
Tours, which has been removed since. it was The Thing in a kit, which
was really common but really expensive too then, as it is still today.
then, a model after another, I kept on painting.
The first time we met, it was at the PJC. are you still
participating to shows with your work. how does the public react ?
My friends told me that I was doing a great work, that's why I wanted
to know the opinion of specialists of modeling, and I was several times
granted for my work. so I showed my collection everywhere. The
reactions were really good in France cause frenchies are not used to
see those kind of models.
Without telling us your little secret, how do you
process to realize a painting ?
For the assembly I use Dremell to sandpaper, bore, remake, and I use
“milliput” for filled different irregularities I can found
on the kits. Then, I bore the arms, legs; I put hard plastic stems to
fix definitely the whole kit. I wash the kit with a dish-washing
product and then I pant the whole in black. Drying, and finally comes
the real painting work : painting exclusively with
“humbrol” model or “reve “and of course with a
brush!
I know that you use a brush, but do you paint an
other way, or do you think you gonna try other technique?
Till now, brush only cause the result is good, but I'm thinkinf of
using “aero” soon. Maybe oil for smooth and big faces in
order to avoid the engrave feeling.
How long do you need to paint a statue (average) ?
it's hard to say because each model reacts different toward painting,
and those which look easy to paint aren't necessarily easy in fact. the
hardest ones are reptiles or full size face. I'll say about 4 or 5
days. and sometimes nights too.
For those who knows you, they can recognize your
work anywhere. when you start with a model, How do you know the working
path to follow?
I first of all imagine the work done. then, this feeling leads my hand
and my brush. I like to engrave some models, because the smooth
aspect give the impression of a sweet character. I'm trying to
match as much as possible to the comics characters. we can notice that
those heros characters, even women, give the impression of power and
maybe aggressiveness. the other, the "real" ones, are smoother cause
there aren't the main characters. that is why Spiderman and Superman,
for exemple, are interesting, because they're both heros and common
people.
What kind of character do you rather paint, and why
?
I like reptiles, cause it's pretty hard. full size too. I look for
information, in comics for exemple, to learn from the character. I'm
currently working on a full size Gremlins.
Do you have models, statues or busts from other
painters?
I only have piece that I’ve painted, not because other are not
good, but because when I started painting we can only find kits on the
market, andsometimes some kit were so terrific, I simply keep this
passion.
Have you ever tried sculptur? or is it in your
projects ?
YESSSS !!!!! It is my project. but as far as I can, I really need to
sleep at night. I don't have time for this now. sculpting after
painting sounds good to me.
Do you specially like a sculptor or manufacturer
working with resin ?
Gabe Perna, cause I painted some of his models and I'm waitin to paint
some more. he thanks me for a Batman model I painted, and I'am pretty
proud of it. furthermore, he is working hard on detail, whether in
scuptur or moulding. I like Bowan, Mike Hill and Helder too
What are your projects ?
To work for some sculptors, and live with this only job. this is my
dream
and it’s good to dream !!!
